In June 2026 we ran a 30-prompt baseline about AEO tools across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview and logged all 614 source citations in the answers. The most-cited sources were general SEO suites, not AEO tools: Semrush picked up 42 citations and Ahrefs 28, ahead of every dedicated AEO product. Profound (25), Otterly.ai (11), and Peec.ai (10) were the only AEO-native names near the top.
30 prompts phrased the way a buyer actually asks ("best tool to track AI visibility," "AEO software for agencies," and similar), run once each across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview, with every cited source URL logged and grouped by domain.
